The Story
I started fishing at the age of 10. I still remember my Dad taking me to Barby Mill Fishery for my very first float fishing session.
My brother quickly caught the bug and spent his paper-round money and birthday cash on his first set of fishing gear. As the typical younger brother, I inherited all the hand-me-downs.
Growing up, there wasn’t a huge amount that my brother and I had in common, but fishing was different. It was something we genuinely shared. We’d spend hours at our local ponds, and every fish I caught would end up in his hands while he carefully unhooked it for me.
Nine years later, while living in America, I met one of my closest friends. Despite being thousands of miles from home, we bonded over the same thing that had been part of my life since childhood — fishing.
Looking back, fishing has given me far more than just fish. It has given me memories with my Dad, time with my brother, lifelong friendships, and countless hours spent outdoors.
My Dad started my fishing journey. My brother helped shape it. For that, I’ll always be grateful.
But Meridian was created for someone else entirely.
Meridian was built in honour of my daughter, Maeve.
The name represents direction, purpose, and the things that truly matter. It’s a reminder that while the fish are memorable, it’s the people, memories, and moments along the way that stay with us forever.
